Credit Card Spotlight

The Priceline Rewards™ Visa® Card

The Priceline Rewards™ Visa® Card
Apply for Credit Card

The Priceline Rewards™ Visa® Card is not getting the attention that it rightfully deserves. Perhaps because the name indicates that the card is best suited for Priceline purchases, and as a result it does not get a second look, however that could not be further from the truth. It is also issued by Barclays, and therefore not advertised as much as the other major credit card issuers, such as Citi and Chase.

Rewards

Before taking a look at the rewards for Priceline purchases, understanding why this is a great option for all your purchases is important. The reward systems is point based, but you can redeem for statement credits, and the value is 1 cent per point. You earn 2 points on all your purchases and there is no limit on the amount of points you can earn. That is comparable to a 2% cash back credit card, and they are not easy to find these days, especially without limits. You can even get more out of your rewards, when redeeming your rewards at Priceline. You just have to get past the fact that William Shatner is featured on the card.

For Priceline purchases, this card is best suited for “Name Your Own Price” as you get 5 points for those purchases, whereas you only get 2 points when you make a regular purchase at Priceline. Bidding on Priceline is where you get the best deal anyways, and you still get the 2 points, so I feel this is a non issue.

Redemption

When you redeem points for “Name Your Own Price” purchases, you can actually get more out of the points than a regular statement credit. For a single purchase of up to $199.99 your point is worth 1.1 cent and for a purchase of $200 up to $399.99 your point is worth 1.2 cent. It keeps increasing like that in increments up to 1.5 cent for every point redeemed. That means you can actually have this card function as a 3% cash back credit card, since your points can be worth up to 50% more.

Where I do feel this card could be better, are the rules that applies to the redemption. You need to have at least 2500 points, before you can make a redemption, which is common for points credit cards. However if the “Name Your Own Price” amount exceeds your point balance, then you are not allowed to make a partial redemption. You must have enough points to cover the entire amount. There is a 90 day limit for “Name Your Own Price” redemption, as opposed to 30 days for a regular redemption, so if you are short, then you have up to 90 days to earn extra points. The points you earn are credited when you make a purchase.

Conclusion

This is a great card even for someone who never intends to use Priceline. There is no annual fee and you get 5,000 points as a sign up bonus after your first purchase. You can also get an additional 2,500 bonus points if you request a balance transfer in the first 30 days, but there is a 3% transaction fee associated with that transaction.

You just need to make a purchase at least once every 6 month, or your account may be closed and points lost. When you keep the account active, the points are valid up to 4 years.

How to Find the Best Credit Card Deals

A credit card is considered to be one of the easiest payment methods available, but finding the best credit card to apply for is a little more complicated. Not only do you receive promotional offers in the mail almost every week, but there are hundreds of cards to apply for online. It can be a daunting task to compare credit cards as they all have different features. Making the right decision involves figuring out what type of card is going to be appropriate for your needs and lifestyle.

Here is a list of the most essential features that you should compare before you apply for a credit card.

Intro APR

Offering a low introductory APR for a period of time is a promotional tool utilized by many credit card issuers to gain new customers. Introductory rates can be used to your advantage for either purchases or balance transfers. If you carry a balance you can save a lot of money with 0% APR offers, however it is important that the regular interest rate on your new card is equal or lower than the rate on the old card. You will be amazed of how quickly the initial savings can evaporate once the intro APR offer has expired.

Reward Credit Cards

Many credit cards offer rewards to the cardholder for every dollar that is spend on purchases. This can be in the form of cash back, points, or airline miles. You can earn many of these rewards at no additional expense, but airline miles credit cards are usually associated with an annual fee. The frequent traveler would still earn enough miles to make up for this fee, while others may benefit from a different type of credit card rewards.

Interest Rates

Comparing the regular interest rate after the introductory rate is expired may be one of the most important factors when deciding to apply for credit cards. The savings from a credit card that just offer a low ongoing rate can be significant if you carry a balance. The best reward credit cards with introductory offers may look enticing, but are often associated with higher interest rates after the promotional period.

Finance Charges

There are a variety of finance charges that can be applied to a credit card. Some of these finance charges can be avoided if the right card is chosen during your quest to compare credit card offers. There is no need to pay an annual fee when there are so many options out there with no annual fee. Balance transfer fees can also be eliminated with the right card. If you forget to make the payment or exceed the credit line, you have no other choice than to accept the fee that is applied to your account.

Business Credit Cards

Small business owners can separate their personal and business expenses with a business credit card.

The best offers include 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers, so whether your business is new or established, these offers can help your business grow.

There are also numerous cash back credit cards, where you can earn the rewards for every dollar spent on both you and your employees purchases.

You can apply for a business credit card today and be on your way to take advantage of the benefits.

Getting approved for an unsecured credit card after college and with no credit history can be a difficult task.

Apply for a credit card as a student and avoid the trouble of trying to build credit history with secured credit cards or end up with very high interest rates.

These deals include no annual fee, 0% APR balance transfers, and cash back rewards.

Earn 5% cash back on gas with gas credit cards. Receive a free flight when you have earned enough miles by using an airline credit card for your purchases.

Prepaid Debit Cards

A prepaid debit card is a useful tool to control your spending. At the same time you have an additional payment method available, when cash is not the best option.

Prepaid debit cards are also good as gift cards, which can be discarded when funds are used.

Compare the best prepaid debit cards, submit your application and receive a guaranteed approval.

Secured Credit Cards

Apply for secured credit cards and begin to build or reestablish your credit history.

Card issuers will report your activity on the secured credit card to the 3 major credit bureaus each month. There is guaranteed approval even with no credit or bad credit.

Compare secured credit cards and apply online.

Limited or No Credit History

Check your credit report to find information about your credit history and score.

You can still apply for a credit card with an unsecured line of credit, even if your credit report indicates no credit history. The selection of cards in this category can be very limited.

You should try to search in the limited or no credit history or if you are willing to make a deposit equal to your credit line take a look at secured credit cards to build credit history.

Nov 5 Starwood Points at a 25% Discount

Earning Starwood points were once a very good idea, because you could redeem for hotels and resorts all around the world. For instance Bora-Bora, which is very expensive and outside the reach of most travelers could use the points and actually be able to afford it. However points program tend to be devalued and Starwood is certainly no exception. They began adding more reward tiers to their program where the top tiers required an insane amount of points for just one night. That meant very few people would even have enough points to take advantage of the book 5 nights and stay 1 night free deal.
